Technical SupportWhen I Try to Play the Screen Comes Back to the Main MenuCommon problems and solutions for Epic Pinball
Problems you may experience with version 1.x of Epic Pinball
Problems you may experience with Version 2.0 of Epic Pinball
Problem: I have Windows 95/98 and when I select "Play Game" the screen returns me back the main menu. Solution: Some of the tables in Epic Pinball require more memory than others. If you select a table and the screen blacks out and returns to the pinball menu, you will need to free more conventional memory. Below is a brief outline on how to free more conventional memory for Windows 95/98 users: 1. Right click your mouse on a
empty area of your desktop. Choose "NEW" and then "SHORTCUT". Here is an example of a
CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT for your DOS mode shortcut.
Once you have completed all of these steps, click the "OK" icon on the "ADVANCED PROGRAM SETTINGS" windows and then the "OK" icon on the "PROPERTIES" window. By clicking "OK", you will save the options you have just specified. To run from your new DOS mode shortcut, double click on the icon. Windows will then automatically reboot into DOS mode, execute the application, and return to Windows 95 upon exiting. If your SHORTCUT does not work properly, double check your SHORTCUT's properties for anything you may have missed. Problem: I have DOS 6.x and when I select "Play Game" the screen returns me back the main menu.
Solution: Free up more conventional memory by eliminating any
unnecessary TSR's or device drivers that may cause a conflict. To do this,
reboot your computer by pressing your computer's RESET button or
Ctrl-Alt-Del. Wait for the message "Starting MS-DOS..." to appear. When it
does, press the [F5] key. Problem: I have DOS 5.x and when I select "Play Game" the screen returns me back the main menu. Solution: Free up more conventional memory by eliminating any unnecessary TSR's or device drivers that may cause a conflict. To do this, you will need to create a "boot disk." Put a blank disk
in your A: drive (Don't do this in your B: drive-it won't work!) and type
"FORMAT A: /S" from the command prompt Now, you can reboot your computer and play Epic Pinball:
Note to owners of "Stacker", "Superstor", and other hard disk compression programs: If your C: drive is compressed and you need a boot disk to start Epic Pinball, you must install Pinball on a different, non-compressed drive. See your Stacker or Superstor manual for instructions on doing this. (This only applies to users of DOS version 5.0 or earlier). Problem: What can I do about flickering DOT-MATION? Solution: Try lowering your sound quality in the SETUP. This will help to free up the work load of your processor. Second, select low detail in the options section of the main menu. Problem: What can I do if my monitor blacks out after a few minutes of play. Solution: Disable your screen saver and or power saving utilities. There are a number of places where you can configure your computer's power saving features. Be sure to check any TSR's that load when booting and your computers CMOS. If you are running Windows 95/98, be sure to check your control panel. Problem: Why is Epic Pinball jumpy under Windows 95/98 and what can I do about it? Solution: Epic Pinball requires total control of the system clock in order to synchronize the game. However, Windows 95 will not permit other programs to have complete control of the system clock and as a result, the video in Epic Pinball may periodically jump. In order to get Epic Pinball to run smoothly on computers with Windows 95, you will need to run from DOS mode. From DOS mode you will get the same performance as you will with previous versions of DOS. Problem: When running under Windows 3.x I get the message "The KB value required is too large. Decrease PIF." Solution: This is Windows way of telling you that there is not enough free conventional memory to run Epic Pinball. For best results, we recommend running Epic Pinball from DOS. Problem: My video is corrupt when I play Epic Pinball. Solution:
One of two things is causing this to occur. Either your monitor
or video card does not support Epic Pinball's video mode. Epic Pinball
runs in modeX which is a resolution of Problem: Why do I hear static on my SB16 or SB Pro II sound card? Solution: This problem was common with version 1.X of Epic Pinball. The latest version, 2.1, has native support for the SB16 and it also supports the SB Pro 2.0 standard. Problem: Why does Epic Pinball stay paused constantly? Solution: You are most likely running version 1.x and have a joystick connected to your computer. Some computers will pause if you are using an older versions of Epic Pinball and a joystick is connected to the game port. To correct this problem, we recommend upgrading to version 2.1. Problem: Epic Pinball maxes out my SB's master volume setting, what can I do? Solution: This was a common problem with version 2.0 of Epic Pinball. If you have v2.0, download the v2.1 patch. Version 2.1 corrects the master volume setting and adds music/sound effects volume controls to the game options. Problem: My computer locks up as soon as I choose play game, what can I do? Solution: You are most likely running version 2.0. The sound card reset timing value in v2.0 of Epic Pinball was specific to true Creative Labs Sound Blasters. As a result, there were a number of Sound Blaster clones that would cause Epic Pinball to lockup. The v2.1 patch compensates for this timing conflict and adds support for a wider variety of sound cards. Click HERE to download the v2.1 patch. Are you a Cheater?
